Mexican west coast rattlesnake(Crotalus basiliscus)

The mexican west coast rattlesnake is a species of large, venomous snake in the family Crotalus(rattlesnakes) they are pitvipers like all rattlesnakes. They are among the largest rattlesnakes growing in excess of 4ft.

Their nature is mostly good despite their large size and toxic venom as such bites are very rare. However they are more then capable of a fatal bite as they inject large amounts of venom in each bite.

Their venom is quite toxic and more so then their cousins the eastern and western diamondbacks. They are bulky and stout snakes with large girth and weight making them quiet powerful when agitated.

Their fangs are long like most rattlesnakes enabling venom to be injected into prey quickly in a strike. Their venom has neurotoxins making their bites potentially life threatening. They live in arid regions of western mexico along with the blacktail rattlesnake(crotalus mollossus).

Care wise they are easy as are most arid dwelling larger rattlesnakes substrate, hide and water bowl along with rocks and such for them to bask on. Despite their docile nature they shouldn’t be free handled as their bite can be very serious or even fatal.
